About ICT4SDGThis Thematic Network will be the European reference place where stakeholders in the telecommunications services sector will meet with stakeholders within the local distributed power generation sector, the manufacturers of local renewable sources and the distribution system operators. The Network will allow both communities of stakeholders to step forward towards a consensus on the best technologies and applications that will benefit our society. In particular, aiming at all parties contributing to the sustainable use of energy resources through energy savings and improvement in security of supply. This will come about through a good understanding and consensus on the ways that society can fully exploit the benefits of new ICT technologies which will be essential elements to further deploy innovative ICT solutions in any sector. Trial schemes, based on small scale implementation for instance have shown energy savings can be realised by changing the usage patterns of customers through a variety of incentives. The Network will take these and similar experiences and through the widest possible dialogue establish the factors which inhibit large scale deployment. These factors will be addressed through examination of existing and new ICT technologies and services. The outputs from the Network will provide workable solutions which can deliver ICT services to enable large scale distributed generation. The Network will put strong emphasis on disseminating results of its activities and create awareness of the benefits that innovative ICT applications can provide for energy efficiency in particular in buildings. It will also establish an active dialogue with policymakers to address non-technical barriers that might be hampering large-scale deployment in Europe. This will increase visibility and improve the understanding of ICT for energy efficiency. The TN will act as a support tool to achieve the objectives of the Action Plan for European Energy Efficiency and Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-PLAN) for Europe by promoting and pushing forward the use of ICTs to reduce energy consumption, increase security of supply and facilitate the integration of renewable sources. The current status of the project can be seen in the picture below. ![]() |
