26-28 October 2011 - Conferences on Information Technology for Construction and Information and Knowledge Management in Building - Sophia Antipolis (France)
Convergence, interoperability and integration of ICT are key today to face the increasing complexity of components and systems sustaining the future products and services that will be deployed in the built environment, in a knowledge-based. Increasing regulations, consideration for a sustainable development where buildings have to play a key role in satisfying societal expectations, the need to improve the competitiveness of the Building industry to drive and stimulate product, service and process innovation and deployment: all those growing priorities are to generate an impact never achieved so far in the Built environment and the Construction processes, while at the same time, will lead in a near future to unprecedented research and business opportunities for innovative companies to deliver ICT-based solutions for future so-called “smart buildings and cities”, for the benefits of citizens, industry and governments.

This is why the joint organization of CIB W078 and CIB W102 conferences in Sophia Antipolis, France, on the 26-28 October 2011 is to be a unique and exciting event, introducing to the broad achievements in research, development, standardisation and industrial implementation of advanced Computing, Information and Communication Technology and Knowledge Management in the Building sector, and providing an ideal forum for future collaborative innovation and creativity.

26-29 October 2010 - ICT4SMARTDG Shared the Progress of the Thematic Network on the Occasion of EUTC2010
The European Utilities Telecom Council annual conference was held in the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on 26-29 October 2010. During this conference, a specific session was dedicated to the ICT4SMARTDG Thematic Network.

Whilst the project entered its third phase, examining non technological barriers to the implementation of distributed generation, this session gave attendants the opportunity to get involved in one of the most exciting discussions for ICT and energy, and hear progress of the project.

The European Utilities Telecom Conference is the only European event dedicated to energy and utility professionals from Europe’s gas, water and electricity utilities, and increasingly Middle East’s, Africa’s, and South America’s. The conference is designed to meet the needs of senior European executives from utilities, pipelines and other critical infrastructure companies as well as their technology and financial partners who have responsibilities for managing all internal telecom networks as well as developing new telecom ventures.

27 September 2010 - WP3 First Workshop, Brussels
On  Monday 27 September, and after a couple months of preliminary work, our Thematic Network celebrated the first presentational workshop of WP 3 "Identification of non technical barriers for large scale deployment".

The purpose of this Workshop was to debate the first content of the final document that will include all those non technical obstacles that may hamper mass deployment of Smart Distributed Generation (legal, cultural, financial...)

25 February 2010 - WP2 Second Workshop, Brussels
On Thursday 25 February 2010,ICT4SMARTDG held the second workshop of WP2:  “Achieve consensus on benefits of available ICT Solutions."

This Workshop was devoted to keep working on 4 out of the 6 targets in which WP2 has been divided, namely:

  • Solutions and identified stakeholders
  • ICT4SMARTDG reference architecture
  • Define Requirements to do analysis of ICT solutions
  • Consensus on ICT advantages for Smart Distributed Generation

16 December 2009 - ICT4SMARTDG WP2 Officially Kicked Off
Last December 16th and following some preparatory works, WP2 of our Thematic Network was kicked off in Brussels. This Work Package will be led by TELEFONICA and will focus on the achievement of a consensus on the benefits of available ICT solutions

4 November 2009 - ICT4SMART DG Held Its First Dissemination Event in Budapest
In the first steps of their work, the partners of ICT4SMARTDG, led in this mission by Iberdrola, collected and analysed information in order to create solid background knowledge and reach common understanding of today’s situation in the field of distributed micro generation including the main fields of action, requirements and necessities for ICT and for energy networks.

The information collected was organised in 3 different scenarios that were presented on 04 November. Each scenario is focusing on a prominent area of smart distributed generation and the different partners have been clustered in these scenarios depending on their expertise and the nature of the experiences they have provided to the network common knowledge assets.

The scenarios are as follows:

  • Scenario 1: Buildings/ Enterprises (non residential buildings). Scenario 1 comprises the management of generation in non residential buildings and enterprises in which Demand Side Integration and/or Distributed Generation is possible. This scenario introduces the concept of Virtual Power Plant (VPP) which aggregates the capacity of many Distributed Energy Resources (DER), and creates a single operating profile from a composite of the parameters characterising each DER and can include the impact of the network on aggregate DER output.
  • Scenario 2: Microgrids of domestic customers (buildings). Scenario 2 regroups contributions concerned with the medium to long-term implementation of micro-grids. A micro-grid can be defined as a system made up of generation sources, storage equipment and loads that can operate connected to the main system or in case of electric disturbances, islanded from it.
  • Scenario 3: Isolated Houses (residential houses not connected to a micro-grid but connected to the grid).Scenario 3 comprises the management of isolated houses or residential places and electric vehicles connected directly to the distribution network. These networks have the characteristic of having loads and generation but connected to the low voltage distribution network.

These Scenarios were presented during EUTC09, the only European event dedicated to IT and telecom professionals from Europe’s utilities. The European Utility Telecom Conference is designed to offer utilities many resources to tackle their current challenges more effectively and efficiently. Topics discussed presented a complete overview of what matters for utilities today, including: customers contact solutions, ICT for energy efficiency, Communications for utility operational networks, telecom operators’ network performance, telecoms resilience in emergency situations, smart-grids and smart-metering, mobility and remote access solutions, regulations, demand side management, IP technologies.

The second WS focused on the following points:

  • Presentation of the first fiches as a practical example of what was expected.
  • First contacts with ongoing projects on related fields (Smart-A, SEESGEN TN; interaction with this Thematic Network is specially relevant as ICT4SMARTDG and SEESGEN are “twin” projects)
  • First concept clashes between energy and telcos points of view; the scope of the project is clearly redefined since some telcos had some doubts concerning in which area it was focused.

29 January 2009 - WP1 1st  Workshop, Brussels
