Planned Activities

Below is a list of planned activities associated with ICTSDG.

WP3 First Workshop, Brussels, 27 September 2010-09-01

The workshop will be the kick off for WP3: “Identification of non technical barriers for large scale deployment”. The main goals of this workshop are:
  • To achieve the understanding of potential blocking factors for the large scale deployment of distributed generation, given that suitable technology exists.
  • To develop proposals on how to overcome those factors.
In this first workshop, the guidelines for subsequent work will be given, putting some emphasis in the several kinds of non technical blocking factors for mass implementation of smart distributed generation (legal, cultural, social, financial and environmental); contributions from any stakeholder interested in the subject are more than welcome.

ICT 2010 – 27-29 September 2010 – Brussels, Belgium

On the occasion of ICT 2010, a Joint Networking Session entitled: “ICT for SmartGrids with DER: Building the European Power System of Tomorrow” and involving ICT4SMARTDG and SEESGEN-ICT Thematic Networks will be organised.

Transformation of the Electric Power System into the architecture of Smartgrids with integrated Distributed Energy Resources (DER) is deemed a must of the EU Energy strategy and is a challenge that cannot be won by a single utility, industry or country. On the contrary, it requires collaboration of all Stakeholders, in an interdisciplinary approach that brings together different experiences from a big variety of stakeholders and countries.

The proposed session intends to focus on the ICT technologies enabling the use and implementation of DER in order to boost energy efficiency. Therefore, the scope of the Session gives further opportunities both to the FP7 and CIP programmes and is completely aligned with the 20-20-20 objectives and the EU ICT strategy roadmap.

Clearly energy efficiency has a strong End User focus and DER are mainly addressed at a End User level; therefore, the Session is fully aligned with the continuing constructive role of ICT in the daily life of citizens, a priority of the 2010 ICT event.

The proposed Networking Session will present these TNs and enable contact between stakeholders (inside and outside the TNs) in order to shape future projects and common ideas, whereas stimulating discussion over the following ICT priorities: facilitate DER integration, foster the EU harmonisation of the approach, promote standardisation, create consensus building, demonstrate implementation. These topics being specifically addressed by the two TNs, that will ensure the most updated start point of the Session and the follow-up of its results.

The scope of the Session in terms of stakeholders involved will be as open as possible; target audience will count Energy Operators (Regulators, TSOs, DSOs, Aggregators, manufacturers, End Users associations, Research organisations, Universities) and ICT Industry.

EUTC 2010 – 26-29 October 2010 – London, United Kingdom
The European Utilities Telecom Council annual conference will be held in the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on 26 – 29 October 2010. During this conference, a specific session will be dedicated to the ICT4SMARTDG Thematic Network.

Whilst the project enters its third phase, examining non technological barriers to the implementation of distributed generation, this session will give attendants the opportunity to get involved in one of the most exciting discussions for ICT and energy, and hear progress of the project.

The European Utility Telecom Conference is the only European event dedicated to energy & utility professionals from Europe’s gas, water and electricity utilities, and increasingly Middle East’s, Africa’s, and South America’s. The conference is designed to meet the needs of senior European executives from utilities, pipelines and other critical infrastructure companies as well as their technology and financial partners who have responsibilities for managing all internal telecom networks as well as developing new telecom ventures. Government regulators looking for innovative ways to promote economic development should also attend.
